devon cricket league 2025 - round 7
1ST XI
The 1st XI made a delayed departure to take on Plympton CC 1st XI as a result of the massive amount of rain the City of Plymouth had had in the previous 48 hours thus allowing them to see the start of the 2nd XI warm up.
Play was unable to start until 3pm so 30 overs per side. To save time, Tea was taken first. Normal service was resumed with the toss, Hazza losing it, and not unsurprisingly T&K were asked to bat first.
At 18 for 2 the worst fears seemed to becoming true with both Tim Western and Chris Kelmere out cheaply. However with Nathan Roux running into form with a run a ball 61 and a trademark quick fire 24 from Hazza, plus many of the Plympton bowler’s radars malfunctioning the early damage was repaired. Subsequently there was cameos from Messrs Baxendale, Hearn and Thompson to get T&Ks score up to 164 for 5 in their 30 overs. The best of the Plympton bowlers was Jamie Bailey with 2 for 41.
With the exception of captain, Harry Kandampully with 38 and Jamie Bailey with 25, Plympton’s reply was spun apart by The Three Amigoes – Messrs Passenger (3 for 10), Kulkarni (3 for 21) and Kelmere (3 for 22). Although it should really have been The Four Musketeers as Harry Baxendale was unplayable with 0 for 10 off his 6 overs. Plympton were all out for 110 with an over to go.
Next up for the 1st XI next weekend is hosting Thorverton CC 1st XI.

2ND XI
The 2nd XI played host to Plymouth CS and Roborough CC 1st XI (PCSR). Sadly it must be reported not for the first time this season the 2nd XI were unable to provide an umpire which needs to be addressed ASAP for a club of our standing.
T&K won the toss and elected to field.
Everything looked promising to start with Anthony Nadar removing both openers cheaply. However there was then a 3rd wicket partnership of 115 between Mailk Wasim (86) and Ritesh Dubey (66) which repaired all the early damage. PCSR were finally all out for 215 in 41.3 overs. The best of the T&K were Anthony Nadar with 4 for 43 and Bobby Western with 3 for 29.
In reply it was the case of no one really getting going with the possible exception of captain, Ryan Hanauer with 31. T&K were bowled out for just 122 in 40.5 overs. The best of the PCSR bowlers were Saf Johar with 4 for 29 and Muhammad Ali with 3 for 29.
Next up for the 2nd XI is a likely Battle on the “Western Front” (selections permitting) at Walls Hill next weekend when they take on Babbacombe CC 1st XI – hopefully Field Marshall Western can keep the troops in order!

3RD XI
The fun bus carrying the 3rd XI set off to take on Sandford CC 3rd XI under the leadership of Steve Waters while Mr Etherington is off sunning himself.
The stand in skipper won the toss and elected to field.
Ady Zimunu on her 3rd XI debut soon had Sandford in trouble and was on a hat trick by the time she came to bowl just her 4th ball – Sandford scrambled a single though. Ady finished with 4 for 31 whilst the other wickets were shared around including 2 for 14 by Danny Kulkarni which meant only dad, Vivek, was wicketless. Extras with 25 top scored for Sandford, but in terms of their batters the best was a member of the club’s legendary Matten family, Jason with 24. However, they were all out for 114 in just 23.4 overs.
In reply though at 46 for 4, T&K were making hard work of it. However, 69 by Pratyush Jain, ensured the runs were knocked off in a canter in just 21 overs. Ady started how she finished hitting the winning 4. Glyn Baker was the best of the Sandford bowlers with 2 for 22.
The fun bus had a joyous trip back to the Rec.
Next up for the 3rd XI next weekend is hosting Cheriton Fitzpaine CC 1st XI.

Torquay and Kingskerswell CC 3rd XI (19 pts) beat Sandford CC 3rd XI (5 pts) by 4 wickets
4TH XI
Normal service was resumed to prove the doom-mongers wrong as the 4th XI hosted their counterparts from Cullompton CC.
One of those returning to boost the ranks was Steve Stonehouse who was actually redlined last season during the pre-season DCL player registration cull by his partner in crime at TUFC, a certain Vivek Kulkarni! It is actually rumoured that Steve might be appointed the club’s Honorary Paramedic!
Cullompton won the toss and asked T&K to have a bat.
Evo had had a little bit of fun entering the team on Play Cricket – putting a certain Mr Stonehouse to open. Well he did open and the first ball he faced went for 6. However, he was soon on his bike thanks to confusion leading to his run out. It soon became the Sachin Joy show, with Joy finally falling just 2 runs short of his century off just 68 balls. The best of the Cullompton bowlers was Elliot Rowland 3 for 20 as T&K amassed 209 all out in just 33.4 overs.
Sachin Joy was certainly going to enjoy his day in the sun. Cullompton were all out for just 119 in 28.4 overs – Joy taking 4 for 11 oh yes plus a run out. Note must be made of the Hudson family who took 4 catches – the spoils being shared equally between father and son. The best of the Cullompton bowlers was Oliver Wall with 33 (one of Joy’s wickets).
Next up for the 4th XI next weekend is the relative short trip to take on Stokeinteignhead CC 2nd XI.
Torquay and Kingskerswell CC 4th XI 209 all out (33.4 overs)
S Joy 98
E Rowland 3-20
Cullompton CC 4th XI 119 all out (28.4 overs)
O Wall 33
S Joy 4-11
Torquay and Kingskerswell CC 4th XI (20 pts) beat Cullompton CC 4th XI (7 pts) by 90 runs
Player of the Day
Well the award has to be split. For performance you can look no further then Sachin Joy. However, for commitment, it must equally go to Parvez Khan, who came off working nights, slept in his car for a few hours, and then kept wicket for the 2nd XI, before going back to work – “an excuse to play cricket not an excuse not to play cricket.”
Spectator Watch
The start of the match was watched by Devon cricketing royalty – Keith “one more season” Donohue, a Plympton legend. On the T&K front it is time to mention Suzie an honorary “drinking” member of Camp Kelmere who does her best to keep Harry Baxendale in order. Seriously though Suzie is very supportive of those around the team who are struggling.
