DISASTER BY TEATIME!
1ST XI
The 1st XI played host to Bridestowe and Belstone CC 1st XI in the winner takes it all relegation battle – there could be “no time for losers.”
As usual Hazza lost the toss and T&K were asked to have a bat. Note to skipper – please inform Evo of team changes!
For the second week running Kev Sullivan’s quote “what has just happened” soon sprung to mind with T&K soon 44 for 4 with all the main batters back in the pavilion with the exception of the “Two Harrys” but it was no laughing matter when they were both out with the score just 60 for 6. T&K were finally all out for just 83 in only 34.1 overs. Extras top scored with 22 as for the batters, Nathan Roux was best with just 16. The damage having been done for B&B by Paul Penberthy with 4 for 20 and Tallan Burns with 3 for 18. A special note of thanks to Tallan - not many opposition captains return the match ball to Evo.
So for a second week running T&K were out in the field before tea. However at 34 for 4, in reply thanks to the Harry Baxendale show with 4 for 28 was the Great Escape on? Sadly it wasn’t to be with a skipper’s knock by Kian Burns – 28 not out seeing B&B over the line with 4 wickets in hand. It has to be noted the umpires used Law 43 regarding the taking of Tea.
Had the match gone on much longer. Evo could have put his feet up as Don Shelley the Middlesex CCC 1st XI scorer had arrived on the ground for his annual visit. (Evo worked with Don at the Home of Cricket back in 2013.)
It is rumoured that Hazza is calling a COBRA meeting before the Speed Quizzing tonight!
Before the 1st XI make the shortest of trips to take on Barton CC 1st XI next weekend the batters have two opportunities for some batting out in the middle – Monday against Four Oak Saints in a T20 and Wednesday against Heffle Cuckoos in a 40 over match.
