HOLLACOMBE Community Resource Centre SPONSORED WALK – THE PROLOGUE
When planning events in a usual British Summer you usually fear rain will scupper the plans but this time the heat scuppered the original plans. Never had the word “adaptive” seemed so appropriate,
Clients from Hollacombe CRC were originally going to walk over from their centre to the Rec and then do a few laps of the ground (a couple for logistical reasons still did brave the heat and walk over). However, the bulk came over by minibus and just did a ceremonial lap of the ground along with a select band of members of the club. Lunch was then taken before the clients (and staff) participated in some Softball Cricket. Ady and Nathan took the walkers in the nets while Evo despite organising the event was down on his hands and knees (he knows his place) with the wheelchair users. The only scare was when one member of staff top edged a soft ball into her own face - least it wasn’t a client!
Talking of the nets. Evo can see a little job for the Wednesday Afternoon Team next winter!
The success of the event can be measured by two club members telling Evo “you should be very proud of yourself” and numerus staff from Hollacombe saying “they want to comeback again.” Once Safeguarding Checks are complete, photos of the event will be released.
Evo said, “Firstly, I want it put on record my thanks for the co-operation of both the bowls and rugby club’s - it negated so many potential H&S issues. I would then like to thank the invited members who supported the event. Finally though, it is still just the early stages for forging a long term link with Hollacombe. That saying, I am already in the very early stages of forming a link with another organisation via the Tennis Club. I just simply want T&K in the Premier League for EDI and ‘failure’ isn’t a word in my vocabulary.”
