SMASHING NEWS!
Three words, “What a Night” sums up what was witnessed at the Rec tonight.
Staffordshire Pirates posted a score of 204 for 8 in their 20 overs – surely enough!
T&K were reduced to 29 for 4. Then Nathan Roux rose from his sick bed to smash 153 in just 38 balls including 20 * 6s – remarkably the opposition spectators did want him to retire as they knew they were witnessing something very special. Their wish was granted and the ultimate happened 6 * 6s in an over – for the second time Evo was on a night off from scoring but witnessed it at the Rec. Roux’s strike rate was only 402.63! T&K won in just 13.5 overs. The club can report no humans were injured (except bowler’s pride and sore arms for chair, Steve Waters, who was umpiring) and no cars were hit. However, despite the best efforts of ace ball retriever, Luke Glasson, the 1st XI now has no warm up balls left! Special thanks must be given to Phil Sturman for scoring solo - it reminded Evo of a Sunday fixture v Tavistock many years ago when “Braddog” went on the loose with a 54 ball century - the 2nd 50 coming off just 14 balls. It would be wrong also not to give special thanks to Katie and Vanessa who were run off their feet in the kitchen. Finally, a note of thanks for the generosity of Staffordshire Pirates regarding the club’s fund raising for Autistic After Hours – the total now stands at about £150 (educated guess of Evo’s). Evo’s initiative will put the club in a better position when applying for grants in the future.
