HOLLACOMBE XMAS FAYRE
I spy a cricketer!
Hey Big Spender!
Jade with one of Evo’s cricketers!
A visit from a neighbouring club literally! A thank you must also go to two members of Barton CC (yes I know) for helping source a Draw Prize.
Evo would like to say a huge thank you to all that donated Draw Prizes - lets just say the husband of his contact at the Centre should be super fit in 3 months!
any candidates?
Maybe a chance to promote our club in the wider local community, which is so crucial going forward, whilst also seeking rightful recognition for its own hardworking volunteers!
DON’T FORGET OUR PARTNER ORGANISATION this saturday
Jade Shergold (sister of Kels) has a stall and Evo will be present to further promote the club’s link with the Centre. On behalf of the Centre, Evo would like to thank club members who donated Raffle Prizes - from all accounts the Centre were really appreciative.
HE’S COMING HOME – NIALL McCARTHY
The club are pleased to announce the return of top order batter, Niall McCarthy, from Abbotskerswell CC. During his previous time with Torquay CC, Niall a right hander, scored 178 not out for the 2nd XI in the league (as well as 109 in another match). Watching from the boundary will be dad, Rob, a Vascular Surgeon, who on a few occasions turned out in the league when Torquay CC were short on numbers.
Well Home Niall
what an anchievement!
A year ago there was no W&G cricket at the club, fast forward twelve months and the club has a team in the Paignton Indoor Softball League (based at Paignton Academy - Borough Road Site) when it starts in February 2026. In the words of Del Boy though, “would you Adam and Eve it” the first match is against Barton CC on 1st February 2026!
The link to all the fixtures is below:
Good Luck to Hollie and all the W&Gs

incoming player - joe fe(a)rndale
Thanks to the persuasive skills of Bax. The club are pleased to announce the signing of wicketkeeper / middle order right hand batter, Joe Ferndale (spelt like that on Play Cricket but as Joe Farndale on Cricket Archive - Evo is on the case). Joe originated from the South Coast but is currently studying at Exeter University. Since leaving Marlborough College, Joe has represented the college in The Cricketer Cup (a competition for Old Boys). Last season, Joe got some early season experience of the DCL playing for North Devon CC before returning to play for Liphook & Ripsley CC 1st Xi in the Southern Premier League Division 2 where his highest score was 81.
Welcome Joe
daddles sadly strikes in melbourne
it would just be suffice to say Josh and Oak Park St Francis de Sales CC 1st XI had had better days in their most recent match against Footscray United CC 1st XI which had been reduced to a 1 day match due to the weather. Hopefully over the next two weekends Josh and the team will have better luck against Sunshine CC 1st XI.
first winter signing confirmed @ 07:42 this morning
The club are pleased to formally announce the first winter signing – Jimmy Clifford. Jimmy is an experienced top / middle order right handed batter who is relocating from the Midlands where he played for Harborne CC 1st XI in the extremely strong Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League (which is actually the oldest cricket league in the world - Queen Victoria was still on the throne when it was formed).
Last season Jimmy scored 328 runs at 25.23 in Harborne’s first season back in Premier League 1. In all matches last season, Jimmy scored 881 runs at 32.78 with the highest score of 131 not out against West Bromwich Dartmouth CC 1st XI. As a youngster, Jimmy was involved in Warwickshire’s youth set up.
Welcome Jimmy
A SPECIAL DELIVERY TO HOLLACOMBE CRC (AND INTRODUCING A NEW MEMBER OF THE BALL RETRIEVAL TEAM)
Evo also now known as “The Cricketman” was over at Hollacombe CRC for their third winter net. Beforehand though he handed over the first of the draw prizes club members have donated to Hollacombe’s Xmas Raffle. From all accounts they were blown away with the first delivery. (The second delivery though will even include a donation from a member of Barton CC.) The centre’s Xmas Fayre is on Saturday 22 November and the club will have double representation - Kel’s sister, Jade, has got a stall and Evo will be promoting EDI credential’s of the club. How far has the link between the club and centre come from a standing start in just seven months!
As for Hattie the dog she has just been signed up by Evo for his Ball Retrieval team - photos of her being put her paces will be released shortly.
What especially pleased Evo today though was apart from the hardcore cricketers, there was several new clients who really enjoyed themselves especially as the session is now done to music. Of the hardcore cricketers though there is one who stands out. Currently learning to walk using a specialised walking frame, their first “net” today was using that before reverting to their wheelchair for their second “net”,

another win for josh
The club are happy to report it is now back to back wins for Josh Thompson out in Melbourne. Overnight, Oak Park St Francis de Sales CC 1st XI beat Seddon CC 1st XI by 27 runs with Josh scoring a quick fire 35 – a scoring rate of a mere 140! Josh returns to two action over the next two weekends with a home match against Footscray United CC 1st XI. Just for the geeks, two famous cricketing residents of Footscray are / have been Ray Bright (the last of Bob Willis’ victims at Headingley ’81) and Merv Hughes (the main ground in Footscray where grade cricket is played is named after him).
a win for josh
Finally we can report a win for Josh. Oak Park St Francis de Sales CC 1st XI getting revenge over Maribyrnong Park St Marys CC 1st XI in a two day fixture – Josh though was just a “specialist fielder” when the opposition batted - they ell 41 runs short. Oak Park St Francis de Sales CC 1st XI are on their travels next weekend when they return to the shorter 1 day format away to Seddon CC 1st XI.
