SIGNED ENGLAND CRICKET BAT GOES ON IT’S FIRST TOUR OF DUTY!
With the Festive Season now a distant memory. Evo held the first indoor “net” of the year at Hollacombe CRC. However, this time he had the signed England cricket bat (2024 ODI squad including Archer, Bethell, Brook and Rashid) he received for winning The Cricket Collective Volunteer Moment of the Year photograph competition. After another extremely successful session the bat stopped off at Devon County Sports Ltd and Hector’s House, both of which have supported Evo in various ways with his work. Prior to the AGM where it will be on show, it will be visiting Torquay Tennis Club which has also supported Evo’s work. At that stage there will be photos on the website of its tour of Torbay. Evo has also just confirmed the bat will be on show at any high-profile club events hold during the season.
JOSH FIRED UP FOR THE NEW YEAR!
The club are pleased to note that Josh Thompson didn’t over indulge on the beaches of Melbourne during the festive season. In Josh’s first match of the New Year, on day 1 of 2 away to Haigh Faswkner, Josh hit a quick fire 57 having already taken two catches.

The club can now officially “report” the return of James Tyler from Abbotskerswell CC. During his time away, James an all rounder who played for all Devon Age Groups, despite being blighted by a back issue has continued his cricket education with a winter out in Australia.
The 2026 season will also see a family reunited with the return of Daniel Western from Babbacombe CC after three years away. From information received the Western family will form the backbone of the 2nd XI this season.
Just as importantly the 4th XI will be strengthened by the signing of a useful spinner Stephen Jones on a permanent basis from Honiton CC. Stephen played on-loan for the 4th XI last season but has now decided to make the move permeant.
Formal confirmation of a 4th signing will be announced as soon as Play Cricket decides to behave itself! (Evo as ever is just being cautious.)

The committee are pleased to inform members that the National Counties Cricket Association (MCCA for those of a certain age) have recognised are very own Harry Passenger as Devon’s Most Valuable Player in White Ball Cricket for 2025.

Well America had Armstrong and Aldred but in May, TKCC will have Stacey Bryant(-Waters) and Kay Kulkarni. Between 20:00 on 16 May 2026 and 08:00 on 17 May 2026, Kay and Stacey will be walking a full marathon around Clapham Common as part of the MoonWalk to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. The club are pleased to announced it has secured the signing of former New Zealand U19 wicketkeeper Ben Pomare who currently plays domestic first-class cricket for Northern Districts for the forthcoming season. Ben currently averages 28.18 with a highest first-class score of 82*. Ben has also represented Northern Districts in both the domestic one day and T20 competitions. For the last two European summers, Ben has been playing for Kampong in Holland amassing 1296 runs with an average of 37.03 and a highest score of 100 (plus 8 other 50s).

HOLLACOMBE CRC HAVING A BLAST IN THE HEAT!
The ECB Cricket Collective Bulletin winner of the Volunteer Moment of the Year for 2026 is Evo at Hollacombe CRC, From all accounts that day was so hot had Evo had a hosepipe put over him he would have been dry in two minutes! After the initial shock of seeing the Bulletin, Evo was then in one word, “buzzing.”

What Evo is planning to do for the 31 days come rain or shine is to walk from his house in Fletcher Close, down Queensway, turn right at The Haywain into Sherwell Valley Road, then heading past his old primary school (Sherwell Valley), before continuing up Upper Cockington Lane, then turning right onto Shiphay Avenue before heading down Shiphay Lane. Then, the drag back up Queensway past the charity shop he works in:

Finally, a left turn back into Fletcher Close – a distance of just over 2 miles (might have do 2 laps though to make up the 31 minutes).
As Evo says, “I am no Kevin Sinfield but I freely admit mental health is so bad at times even wanting to get out of bed sometimes is a struggle. So having to do 2 or even 4 miles every day will give me some purpose. I have set up the fund-raising page on Facebook, so I would be most grateful if members could see it in their hearts to donate.”

Evo held the final indoor net of the year with some newly acquired equipment from Hector’s House Charity Shop and was so pleased there was newbies to the session having such fun - photos to follow. Evo was subsequently presented with a box of chocolates by the manager of the centre with the words, “you so help the centre.” Evo has even been invited, by his contact Emma, to Carol Singing with the clients and the Salvation Army Band - Evo can sum it with the words, “what remarkable progress in just seven months.”

JOSH THOMPSON IN THE RUNS
After not having troubled the scorers for the last few weeks. Josh finally found his form scoring 78 of just 87 balls last Sunday as Oak Park St Frances de Sales 1st XI beat Sunshine 1st XI by 6 wickets. Next up for Josh is a two day match starting away to Altona Roosters 1st XI.

TRUE SOCIAL CRICKET RETURNS TO THE REC
The committee are pleased to announce one of the few truly social cricket sides which remain in the Bay, Cavendish Cavaliers CC, are going to be playing their home fixtures in 2026 at The Rec and hopefully for many years to come. Approximately 10 matches either on a Sunday or of an evening.

an early xmas present for the 3rd XI
Within the last few hours Saint Nicholas, not Evo but Nick Rogers the DCL Chair, has delivered an early Xmas Present for the 3rd XI. They aren’t being relegated so remain in G Division Central due to re-organisation of the divisions. This will mean though several trips over Telegraph Hill to the east of the county as well as one onto Dartmoor, to Manaton, to take on Barton 3s.
As a footnote, the 4th XI will be frequently on the Devon Expressway heading west.

The intrepid three of Mike Etherington, James Trenchard and Steve Waters, despite being a team member light finished runners up in the Quiz held at Kingskerswell last Thursday. They lost by just one point, a case of what might have been if they have had a foursome. Hopefully next time the club will be at least able to put one full team and hopefully even a second in the Quiz - the club needs to support events at Kingskerswell.
