DEVON CRICKET LEAGUE 2026 - ROUND 13
1ST XI
The 1st XI headed off into the wilds of Devon to take on Bridestowe and Belstone CC 1st XI minus skipper, Harry Passenger The captain’s “armband” was taken over by Harry Baxendale.
Prior to the match there was complete confusion on TKCCs actual XI, with Chris Kelmere jnr stuck on the A38 after it was closed due to a RTC. Oscar Lovell was nominated as 12th man to try and get him eligible for the rest of the season. Kels got on the field in the nick of time so it is now over to the club’s League Rep to fight the case although Evo believes it will be a lost cause as 12th men don’t need to be registered with the league.
Bax won the toss and asked BBCC to have a bat. Alex Peggie had an early success clean bowling one of the Ewen trio for 4. It was left to Ryan Dennis (78) helped by the Burns brothers’, Kian (61) and Tallan (49) to amass the majority of the runs as BBCC reached 278 for 7 in their 50 overs with Alex Peggie being the best of the TKCC bowlers with 3 for 45.
In reply, TKCC wickets fell at regular intervals before the rain and bad light put stop to play after 36 overs with TKCC on 155 for 7. The best of the batters being a seriously under the weather, Chris Kelmere with 44 not out. Simon Gillespie who bowled his allocation of 10 overs was the best of the BBCC bowlers with 3 for 25. Mention must be made though, of Tom Fogerty’s stunning caught and bowled to remove Dan Western. Evo has recalculated the DLS and BBCC actually won by 77 runs as opposed to what is showing on Play Cricket.
It was very noticeable to Evo that BBCC members and players go ball hunting with out having to be asked, That, saying on his seasonal debut for the League 1st XI. Luke Glasson disappeared into a hedge to two.
On Thursday the 1st XI return to VX3 T20 Cup action away to Bovey Tracey (Play Cricket is showing wrong - hopefully) before hosting Ivybridge CC 1st XI in the DCL next weekend.

The 2nd XI played host to the league leaders, Chagford CC 1st XI.
TKCC won the toss and asked Chagford to have a bat. Not for the first time this season, Tobias Delahunty starred with ball taking 5 for 21 in his 9 overs as Chagford were 177 all out in just 40.2 over. The best of their batter’s being Stuart Lipo with 42 not out.
In reply, Tobias Delahunty continued where he left off with the ball, again not for the first time this season, plundering 83 not out off just 54 balls ably supported by Josh Hunt with a run a ball 44. The best of the Chagford bowlers was Ted Gossett with 2 for 43 as TKCC won in just 28.5 overs by 6 wickets.
Whilst the D Division West title is probably out of reach, vitally TKCC are in the second promotion spot and effectively got a game in hand over the next team, Ivybridge CC 2nd XI, who they travel to play next weekend.

3RD XI
The 3rd XI travelled out to Manaton CC to take on Barton CC 3rd XI with the embarrassing handicap of only 10 players.
Barton won the toss and asked TKCC to have a bat. Having lost both Rob Jack and Steve Waters, the stage was set for a 3rd wicket partnership of 170 between Mike Etherington (75 not out) and Mayank Koyani (100 – his maiden DCL century). The partnership being a Divisional Record. Mr Extras also contributed 49 as TKCC amassed 269 for 4 in 40 overs with no Barton bowler taking more than one wicket.
In reply many Barton batters contributed in a successful run chase led by Sean Hooton (67) and Mustafizur Rahman (49 not out) – Barton with 8 balls to spare with 4 wickets in hand. The best of the TKCC bowlers leading from the front having already done it with the bat, skipper Mike Etherinton with 2 for 37.
Next weekend the 3rd XI play host to Kenn CC 2nd XI.

4TH XI
The 4th XI played host to Lewdown CC 2nd XI with the help of three loan players from Exwick CC including Dave Pearson formerly of this parish but could still only muster 10 players! (it was a level playing field though as Lewdown only had 10 players).
TKCC won the toss and elected to bat and didn’t they have a smashing time. Matt McCann trying to prove there are two cricketers in the McCann household scored 44 and rolling back the years, Phil Bradford fell just 12 runs short of his century. There was then an undefeated 3rd wicket partnership of 160 between Rahul Chandrappa (42 not out) and loanee Meerwais Dilsouz (122 not out – his maiden DCL century) as TKCC scored a mammoth 343 for 2 in 40 overs. Mr Extras also contributing 47 runs.
In reply, Lewdown were all out with a ball to go for a creditable 227 mainly thanks to Ben Parry with 115. Charlie Warren another loanee was the best of the TKCC bowlers with 3 for 37.
Next weekend the 4th XI has the chance to put their feet up – it is their blank weekend.

Western roars for the lions (AGAIN)
After his fifty earlier for the England Lions O50s against Cricket Wales O50s, the club’s very own Tim Western scored his second fifty of the season, for the Lions, this time, 51, against England O60s.

VX3 T20 CUP REPORT
After the false start last week due to some football (“unbelievable”), the club played its first match in the new cup competition away to Barton CC 1st XI – one man and his dog watching compared to the first two seasons of the original version of the competition back in the mid-2000s. Evo would like to say the club put out its 1st XI or at least the bulk of it, but that would be stretching it rather – with only one truly established 1st teamer in the XI, in comparison to Barton who fielded seven of their 1st XI. It certainly left Evo questioning why he bothered to put the club first over his own wellbeing (also see later).
Under the leadership of Ben Pomare, TKCC won the toss and elected to field. Evo’s low mood soon spiralled down even further when he found out that the home club weren’t providing a colleague for him - he was seriously thinking about just going home! Barton’s innings was built around their overseas player, Muhammad Basit with 51 before he was brilliantly run out by Fin Pinder. However, for an awful moment there was a case of “is there a doctor in house” as the run out nearly took Ethan Kulkarni out – fortunately, dad Vivek AKA Dr Viv was playing! The forementioned Dr, was the most economical TKCC with 1 for 23, while the most successful was Luke Glasson with 2 for 24. Barton finished on 150 for 5 in their 20 overs which included what would turn out to prove very costly , 19 wides.
To start TKCCs reply was like a run-away train thanks to Dan Western with a run a ball 21 and Ben Pomare with 55 off just 32 balls, Before the latter was out bowled around his legs, a local car owner will have to visit a panel beater thanks to a massive six out the ground. Until Pomare was out TKCC seemed on course for a win but Bobby Western batting at no 3 and Vivek Kulkarni at no 4, the lack of depth in the batting was exposed and TKCC fell 8 runs short having also lost 5 wickets – the Barton bowlers crucially had only given away just 7 wides. Nick Watkin formerly of this parish was miserly with 0 for 13 off his 4 overs including the only maiden of the match. In terms of success, young Thomas Cox, fresh from his debut for Devon U15s, was the best of the Barton bowlers with 2 for 10.
Post match there was an etiquette breach to be reported – not one TKCC player graced the bar afterwards with Evo having to hold the fort and save face. Irrespective of the opposition, etiquette should always win out.
Next Thursday the “T20 XI” travel to the edge of the Moors to take on Bovey Tracey CC 1st XI.
KAZI Szymanski Signs for London Blaze
The club are pleased to announce that it’s fast bowler, Kazi Szymanski, has been signed to play for London Blaze, if fit, in the Gateway T20 League (https://www.gatewayt20.com/#home), which is being held at Northamptonshire CCC between 17 and 19 August. There will be a mixture of ex-pros (London Blaze have Monty Panesar and Graham Wagg) and up and coming talent such as Kazi.

devon cricket league 2026 - round 12
1ST XI
The 1st XI played host to league leaders, North Devon CC 1st XI, with two key bowlers running for cover well, being on holiday to be precise. Nothing to do with protecting their bowling stats I’m sure despite the rumours Jamie Overton was going to be in town. The famous Ray Batten saying, “call yourself a cricketer,” should be ring in their ears!
Pre-match there was another successful Team Breakfast organised by Ed Smout Cooper – there will be a new Club Official role on Play Cricket soon – “Team Breakfast Organiser.” This was followed by a dip in the sea – allegedly there is no truth in the rumour it was to check out the student talent!
Prior to the match, Evo received a text message from an eagle-eyed Life Member – all that needs saying I, “Covers.” Also, pre-match, one of the holidaying players got their componence by bring have to be called in Italy to try and sort out the live stream.
TKCC won the and elected to field in the baking mid-afternoon English Riviera sun. There was an early wicket a piece for Ritesh Dabhade and Aaron Hearn, the latter on a belated seasonal debut due to work commitments. Hearn went onto claim a second wicket, Jay Rothery (32), one of four catches for Ed Smout Cooper behind the stumps – Hearn finished with 2 for 36. Definate Mawadzi (67) and Jack Whittaker (77) were the main contributors for North Devon. Later in the innings there was Ben Stokes “you can do that” moment when Josh Thompson caught Josh Atkinson off the bowling of Nial McCarthy (2 for 47) for 4. North Devon were 242 all out in 42.2 overs. The wickets having been shared around with Rio Koyikkara with 2 for 29 being the best.
At tea, Evo discovered TKCCs match ball had only just survived the innings without having to be replaced. One of the umpires a leading light in DACO commented that this season’s batch of balls aren’t so good.
In reply TKCC didn’t get off to the best of starts with Jack Popham (4 for 44) taking three early wickets including who almost went from the hero of last week to nearly zero this week. The stage was then then set for a 4th wicket partnership of 153 between Ben Pomare and Harry Passenger. Pomare holing out agonising when on 96 – Passenger fell for 76. TKCC then wobbled thanks to Jay Rothery (3 for 50). However, mature batting from Dan Western (15 not out) and Rio Koyikkara (8 not out), saw TKCC over the line with 3 wickets still standing and nearly 10 overs remaining.
“Top of the League” – doesn’t that sound good!
Next up for the 1st XI is a T20 away to Barton CC 1st XI this Thursday before they return to DCL action next weekend away to Bridestowe and Belstone CC 1st XI.

The 2nd XI travelled to Janner Country to take on Plymstock CC 2nd XI.
TKCC won the toss and elected to bat and whilst several batters made starts none went onto make a big score - Bobby Western (37), Faiz Ebrahim (33) and Tobias Delahunty (30). As a result, TKCC didn’t bat their overs out – 180 all out in 43,3 overs. The best of the Plymstock bowlers was Fraser Cowan with 3 for 32.
In reply, Plymstock were never seriously in danger pf not knocking off the runs. Their innings was built around the 57 scored by Scott Mansfield. Mansfield was supported by 39 from Jacob Hole and Sam White with 30, as Plymstock won by 5 wickets in just 32.2 overs. The best of the TKCC bowlers being young Ethan Ebrahim with 2 for 53.
Next up for the 2nd XI next weekend is hosting the run-away league leaders, Chagford CC 1st XI.

TKCC won the toss and elected to bat. Leading by example, skipper, Mike Etherington, scored 62. Next up was not for the first time this season was Mr Extras with 55. There was also contributions from Paul Harding, rolling back the years with 39 not out and Preshit Pawar with 38. TKCC were all out for 245 off the last ball of their 40 overs – the wickets being shared around with the best being James Rendall with 2 for 31.
In reply the batting of Ottery St Mary just crumbled on the onslaught of Hardrik Patel who claimed 5 for 25 and they were all out for just 91 in 24.5 overs. The highest scorer being Mr Extras with 18 – for the actual batters. Lawrence Salter top scored with 17. Mention on the bowling front must also be made of young Seth McCann who claimed 2 for 10 – clearly now there is a cricketer in the McCann household as “the boy” has talent.
Next up for the 3rd XI next weekend is a trip onto the Moors to take on Barton CC 3rd XI at Manaton CC (there are rumours Barton CC going forward are going to install an artificial wicket at Windmill Hill).

The 4th XI headed west to Janner Country to take on Plymouth CC 4th XI at Plymouth College’s pre-school’s ground.
TKCC won the toss and elected. However, they were soon going to regret it with Plymouth’s opener, Bob Crooks, falling just 13 runs short of his century. Plymouth’s total was also greatly boasted by Mr Extras (60). Of their other batters, John Greenwood contributed 37 and Gareth Hart with 33 as Plymouth scored a massive 260 for 9 in their 40 overs. The best of the TKCC bowlers was Toby Chant with 2 for 16.
In reply, TKCC must thank Mr Extras who top scored with 59. The only real contribution with the bat was 39 by Andy Redpath. TKCC limped to 129 all out in 37.1 overs . Wakman Oyarkhil being the main destroyer taking 4 for 27.

THE FUTURE OF SOFTBALL CRICKET AT HOLLACOMBE crc
Evo is looking for a willing volunteer to help him at Hollacombe Community Resource Centre one morning a month for a maximum of two hours – currently the 2nd Wednesday morning of the month but that can be negotiated.
All you will need to do is feed the clients (adults with Special Needs) some balls to hit, with the help of the staff, and you then see the laughter and smiles on their faces. No coaching required and you would always be supervised by the staff – you will be on your hands and knees though for about an hour though.

Evo would like to apologise for not previously mentioning Ethan Kulkarni who fresh from completing his A Levels has managed the re-formed U15 Team - which was another major tick regarding ECB Compliance.

1ST XI
The 1st XI set off for a Pre-Match Breakfast well organised by Ed Smout Cooper at Bovey Tracey Golf Club but not before a bit of drama and we aren’t talking about the tragic murder of Anne Widdecombe not 10 minutes away from Bovey Tracey’s ground but “oh no who is picking up the warm up bag.” Benjamin Passenger please will you give your son 100 lines “I must get more organised.”
On arrival at the ground there was a little more drama – DACO could only find one umpire for the match, so Chris Sleep ironically their Appointments Officer had to do both ends with players doing Square League. Harry Pasenger led by example thus gaining a bit of kudos despite his earlier misdemeanour by taking his turn out in the middle.
Despite earlier rumours there was no Minute’s Silence for Anne Widdecombe nor was the flag flown at half-mast.
In the heat, TKCC wanted to win the toss and bat first. Hazza’s record with the toss is clearly improving and this was achieved. Alas there was a recurring theme with Josh “bish bosh out” Thompson soon out and he was soon joined back in the pavilion by Ben Pomare and Niall McCarthy. Not before the latter scored a 4 with the very first ball since re-joining the club. However, this left the stage clear for a sizzling run a ball, 102, by Ed Smout Cooper. TKCC were all out with a ball to go having scored 257 – the best of the BT bowlers being Hem Chetri with 4 for 30 and Gethin Williams with 3 for 33. Mention must be made of BT’s skipper, Seb Ansley with 3 catches although he did remarkably drop one.
In reply BT’s innings got off to a disastrous start with Jake Pascoe being trapped LBW by Harry Paseenger for a 2nd ball duck. Further early damage was done by Alex Peggie who travelled down from Surrey to help out in the absence of Kazi “oh my side” Szymanski – Peggie going onto claim 2 for 27. Harry Mount repaired the early damage before becoming a victim of Cramp on 72 although he did return later before being out for 77. That along with the fine catch in the deep by Dan Western off the bowling of Chris Kelmere to remove the dangerous Seb Ansley for 32 were the two real turning points in BT’s innings. However, mention must also be made of the earlier juggling catch to remove Hem Chetri for a duck – there is no truth in the rumour that he will be appearing in Barnum at the Princess Theatre. BT were all out for 180 in 36.3 overs – come the end it was a bit like Emergency Ward 10 with poor Chris Sleep narrowly avoiding have to deal with two runners at the same time which would have been a first for him. BT’s tail was mopped up by Chris Kelmere with 3 for 23 and Ritesh Dabhade, who nearly signed for Exeter CC this season, with 3 for 36. Kudos to Alex Peggie for ensuring the match ball was returned to Evo.
Next up for the 1st XI on Wednesday is to host Paignton CC 1st XI in the 2nd generation South Devon T20 Cup before hosting North Devon CC 1st XI next weekend in the a top of the table clash.

The 2nd XI played host to the Brockman Cup champions, Barton CC 2nd XI with a point to prove and oh boy did they do it in style.
TKCC won the toss and elected to bat or should that be to put the Barton bowlers to the sword. Poor Tom Lillywhite you have to feel sorry for him out for just 29, Exiting the stage though he left it to Tim Western (128 not out) and Tobias Delahunty (152 not out) – whilst Western was a run a ball, Delahunty’s knock was at a SR of 172.73. The unbeaten 2nd wicket partnership of 257 wasn’t a record for D Division West – ironically Barton CC 2nd XI had been mauled even more by two Hatherleigh CC 2nd XI batters in 2024. TKCC finished on 326 for 1 in their 45 overs.
In reply Barton stumbled to 121 all out in just 23.1 overs with skipper Tom Porter top scoring with just 21. The trio of player’s formerly of this parish scored just a combined total of 33. The best TKCC bowler was Luke Glasson with 3 for 40.

3RD XI
The 3rd XI headed east to take on Topsham St James CC 2nd XI on a ground graced annually by the MCC and even once by Torquay CC 1st XI as a home fixture. After a hiatus of several years the side included Paul Harding.
TKCC won the toss and despite the heat elected to field. The star with the bat for TSJ was their captain, Matt Reeves, with 84. Reeves was the second of three wickets for Paul Harding, as if he had never been away. Clearly a case of you never lose the ability, Harding going onto claim 3 for 22. Reeves though was supported by Alex Davison with 40 and TSJ finished on 231 for 8.
In reply TKCC got several starts by their batter’s but no one went onto make that big score – the best of the batters being Preshit Pawar with 36. TKCC fell 54 runs short – all out for 177 in 35.4 overs. The best of the TSJ bowlers being Alex Brown with 3 for 24.

4TH XI
The 4th XI under the leadership of Matt Rossin played host to St Marychurch Old Boys CC 1st XI and lady luck clearly was on their side with last week’s debutant, Ellie Roberts, not available.
SMOB won the toss and asked TKCC to have a bat. Kurt Dettman simply left the innings in tatters taking 5 for 21 and TKCC were all out for just 60 in only 18.5 overs, The only batter to reach double figures was Joe Forst with 15 – thankfully Mr Extras scored 22.
When SMOB replied, Joe Frost gave TKCC a brief glimmer of hope of a miracle removing Gary Ibbotson without scoring but that it was as good as it got with James Lester (33 not out) and Tim Jordan (20 not out) knocking the runs off in just 8.4 overs.
Next up for the 4th XI is a trip next weekend to take on Plymouth CC 4th XI on a ground graced by the MCC (including Evo) every year – no pressure.
