DEVON CRICKET LEAGUE ROUND 4
1ST XI
With a virtually full strength team the 1st XI took on the league leaders, Tavistock CC 1st XI at home.
Normal service continued though with Harry Passenger yet again losing the toss.
T&K were asked to bat and were soon in serious trouble with the run machines of last season in the form of Western, Kelmere and Roux contributing just 12 runs between them – T&K slumping to 44 for 4. Harry Passenger tried to do a rescue act as skipper scoring 69. He was supported by young Rio Koyikkara with 27. However, T&K committed the cardinal sin of not batting their overs out – all out for 157 in just 43 overs. No Tavistock bowler took more than 2 wickets – Rhys Davies being the best mopping up the tail in just one over with 2 for 2.
In reply Tavistock got off to a good start before the tried and tested spin trio of Baxendale, Kelmere and Passenger gave T&K some hope of defending the total, particularly Passenger again leading from the front with 4 for 31. However, it wasn’t to be thanks to opener William Barriball with 44 and later on an undefeated 55 by Will Scott-Munden. Tavistock won by a canter by 4 wickets but with nearly 15 overs to spare.
Next weekend the 1st XI head up the M5 to take on Cullompton CC 1st XI (with what is mentioned in Spectator Watch, not ideal).
Torquay and Kingskerswell CC 1st XI 157 all out (43 overs)
H Passenger 69
R Koyikkara 27
Tavistock CC 1st XI 160 for 6 (35.1 overs)

2ND XI
The 2nd XI travelled over the hill to take on Kenn CC 1st XI with yet another different skipper.
T&K won the toss and elected to field.
There was several contributions by Kenn batter’s however it was opener Chris May who led the way with 55. The best of the T&K bowlers was Abu Bakar with 3 for 23. Kenn finishing to 202 for 8 in their 45 overs.
In reply most of the T&K batters contributed with Anthony Nadar leading the way with an undefeated 32. The best of the Kenn bowlers was James Mason, formerly of Bovey Tracey CC, with 3 for 32. However, T&K won by 3 wickets with 3 overs to spare.
Next up for the 2nd XI is Brockman Cup this Thursday when they travel to take on Bovey Tracey CC 3rd XI. They then return to DCL action next weekend at home to Yelverton Bohemians CC 1st XI.

3RD XI
The 3rd XI played host to their counterparts from Hatherleigh CC.
Hatherleigh won the toss and asked T&K to have a bat.
Once again, club chair, Steve Waters contributed with the bat with 41 before being caught and bowled by A Spinney – not sure if the said bowler was a spin bowler! However, the star of the show along with extras (47) was Parvez Khan with an undefeated 53. The best of the Hatherleigh bowlers were Martin Quick (not sure if he was a quick bowler) with 2 for 22 and Aiden Spinney with 2 for 23 as T&K finished on 241 for 7 in their 40 overs.
In reply, Hatherleigh were reduced to 40 for 3 thanks to Preshit Pawar who finished with 2 for 44 and Pratyush Jain who returned 2 for 53. However, it then became the Jim Sibcy and Liam Pyle show scoring 73 not out and 54 respectively (with a little help from extras). Hatherleigh knocked off the large total with 4 wickets in hand and over 7 overs to spare.
The 3rd XI have a blank weekend next weekend but return to DCL the following weekend away to Shobrooke Park CC 2nd XI.

4TH XI
The 4th XI travelled to taken on Thorverton CC 3rd XI at their out ground, Clyst Hydon CC.
Thorverton won the toss and asked T&K to have a bat.
Alas T&K also committed the cardinal sin of not batting their overs out – all out for 166 in just 29.2 overs. The star with the bat though for T&K was Bala Mallavarapu with 66. Anu George and Matt Rossin both contributes 20s but extras were the second highest score with 27. The best of Thorverton bowlers was Craig Winzer with 3 for 43.
In reply, it was a case of a contribution by many Thorverton batters with Imogen Daldorph with 33 followed by good old extras on 29. With star bowler, Ollie Smith stuck behind the stumps this week, it was left to young Seb Rossin to take 3 for 23. However, it wasn’t enough and Thorverton won 4 wickets with over 4 over left.
Next up for the 4th XI next weekend in the very short trip to take on St Marychurch Old Boys CC 1st XI at Cockington, the former home of Torquay CC 3rd XI and the favourite ground of Roger Tolchard.

Player of the Day
Despite skippering a losing cause, it has to go to Harry Passenger.
Spectator Watch
Well after the events of yesterday there has to be a Spectator of the Day – Josh Hunt’s better half. Despite being off-duty, Abi’s nursing skills were put to good use when Honorary Life Member, John Haly took a nasty tumble, This was in total contrast to the response Evo had from other spectators when he asked them politely if they would look for some lost balls and was told “go away we are just spectators” – each lost ball is £28 and as a result the 1st XI might not be compliant as of 1st June unless Evo can manufacture some spares.
Back on the watching brief, Somerset CCC Academy player, Blaise Baker, while recovering from injury made a rare appearance at the ground – “Blaise good luck with you’re A Levels.”
From a bygone era it was also nice to see Terry Hubbard making a well overdue visit to the ground.
Finally some retrospective news sadly it must be reported Camp Kelmere received some damage from friendly fire at the Bovey Tracey match with Jade unfortunately taking the worst of it.
BATTLE OF THE REC IS OFF!
The T20 match scheduled for today between the Cricket Club and Rugby Club has sadly had to be cancelled, It will be re-arranged for another dater very soon.
the tics have accepted the challenge!
Tomorrow there will be a T20 match between the Cricket Club and the Rugby Club starting at 1.30pm.
SONNY TO ROAR AGAIN
The club are pleased to announce Sonny Baker has retained his place in the England Lions squad to take on India A in a two match series starting later this month. Sonny will be captained by fellow King’s College Taunton old boy, James Rew.. The squad also contains George Hill who played in the same Weedon’s side as Harry Passenger, during his first visit to New Zealand.
Go Well Sonny
TWO WEEKS ON - SAME RESULT
Brockman Cup the replay was played despite the President of the competition last heard of being somewhere in Dorset! Barton CC 2nd XI won the toss and elected to field. Once again the star with the bat was Josh Thompson, fresh from his exploits with Devon U18 at the Rec just 24 hours before, but with just 57 this time of just 25 balls this time supported by Bobby Western (no hangover from his 19th birthday) with 37. The best of the Barton bowlers was super veteran Dave Cadwallader rolling back the years 9from the Nigel Janes era) with 4 for 47 – from all accounts that was his first net of the season! T&K finished on 147 for 7 in their 20 overs
In reply in fading light again (Evo having found a free bar, yes Kels snr, feared another abandonment), Barton with the exception of two 3rd generations in Oliver Shelton with 28 and Riley Calland with 22 not out didn’t really trouble the sole scorer which contravened regulation 9 of the competition regulations – something which the competition committee should address. The best of the T&K bowlers was Joshua Hudson with 3 for 13 as Barton finished on 80 for 6.
Note to the skipper though – Evo handed over all the balls to the acting skipper at the start of the season! “Captains have to take some responsibility.”
Mention must be made of Marli Roux - a natural bar tender behind the hatch already!”
Next up for the 2nd XI in the Brockman Cup is a trip to take on Bovey Tracey CC 3rd XI next Tuesday.
On the spectator front, Evo is reliably informed that Jim Partridge who played for mainly for Torquay CC 2nd XI in the 1970s / 1980s was watching.
HE HAS KEPT THIS QUIET!!
The club are pleased to announce the club’s representatives in Devon O50s cricket is now a quartet. Joining established stars Vivek Kulkarni, Mike Pugh and Tim Western is now a certain Matt McCann.
Well Done Mr McCann
DEVON CRICKET LEAGUE ROUND 3
1ST XI
The 1st XI travelled to the edge of Dartmoor with a weakened team to take on Bovey Tracey CC 1st XI and with his mum not present, Hazza lost yet another toss!
Bovey Tracey asked T&K to have a bat and in the words of Craig Revel Horwood it was soon a “complete disaster” with Tim Western and Nathan Roux both ducking out literally along with Josh Thompson. Chris Kelmere (32) and Harry Passenger (23) repaired some of the damage along with a late flourish from Aaron Hearn (29). T&K were all out for 120 in just 38.4 overs committing the cardinal sin of not batting their overs out. The best Bovey Tracey bowler was Ben Kay with 3 for 34 who was well supported by Ollie Clifford-Bourne with 2 for 22 and Will Christophers with 2 for 23.
Bovey Tracey’s reply soon got interesting with Harry Passenger trapping both young Albie Bradley and Slade Van Staden cheaply LBW. When Bovey Tracey were reduced to 62 for 6 it was certainly game on. However, an undefeated 48 by skipper Seb Ansley (his more famous sister wasn’t present) supported by an undefeated 12 by Peter Bradley. The best of the T&K bowlers was Harry Passenger with 3 for 17, supported by a miserly 1 for 20 from Harry Baxendale. After all the scares, Bovey Tracey won by 4 wickets in exactly the same amount of overs as T&Ks innings.
Next up for the 1st XI next weekend is a home match against Tavistock CC 1st XI.
Torquay and Kingskerswell CC 1st XI 120 all out (38.4 overs)
C Kelmere 32
A Hearn 29
H Passenger 23
B Kay 3-34
Bovey Tracey CC 1st XI 122 for 6 (38.4 overs)
S Ansley 48 not out
H Passenger 3-17
Bovey Tracey CC 1st XI (19 pts) beat Torquay and Kingskerswell CC 1st XI (5 pts) by 4 wickets
2ND XI
For the first time this season the 2nd XI was led by Ryan Hanauer taking on Hatherleigh CC 2nd XI at the Rec.
T&K won the toss and elected to bat. Matt McCann was soon back in the pavilion. It was then left to Tom Lillywhite and Faiz Ebrahim to get the innings on track before a “complete disaster” with both of them being dismissed along with Tobias Delahunty all with the score on 45. It was left to super veteran Mike Pugh to roll back the years with a fine 57. Pugh was supported by Ryan Hanauer (19) and Vivek Kulkarni (21). The best of the Hatherleigh bowlers was Cameron Rowlands with 3 for 22 with T&K finishing on 177 for 9 in their 45 overs.
Thanks to Anthony Nadar (1 for 28) and Vivek Kulkarni (2 for 34) reduced Hatherleigh to 43 for 3. However, it was then the Charlie Neilson and Jack Probert show with an undefeated 78 and 46 show – the latter being dismissed by Abu Bakar. Hatherleigh won by 6 wickets in just 34.5 overs. Thanks must be given to Danny Kulkarni who having already played for the 3rd XI then sub fielded for T&Ks newest star veteran, Matt McCann (injury unknown),
A special mention must be made of Sara Livesey on her debut as 2nd XI umpire.
Next up for the 2nd XI is the “replay” against Barton CC 2nd XI in Brockman Cup. I understand the umpires are Sean Day and Chris Sleep. A reminder to all members – please don’t make comments about the situation. The 2nd XI then return to DCL action next weekend over hill at Kenn CC 1st XI.
Torquay and Kingskerswell CC 2nd XI 177 for 9 (45 overs)
M Pugh 57
C Rowlands 3-22
Hatherleigh CC 2nd XI 179 for 4 (34.5 overs)
C Neilson 78
J Probert 46
V Kulkarni 2-34
Hatherleigh CC 2nd XI (19 pts) beat Torquay and Kingskerswell CC 2nd XI (6 pts) by 6 wickets
3RD XI
The 3rd XI made the shortest away trip of the season to take on Paignton 4th XI at Torre Valley North for the battle of the Chairs with Tim Ward turning out for them. Well done to Mike Etherington for agreeing to play with 10 players to give the chance of the 4th XI to compete on a reasonable level playing field.
Paignton won the toss and elected field. With the exception of the chair (again), Steve Waters with 31, no T&K batter really troubled the scorers and were all out for just 85 in just 24.1 overs. The wickets were shared around with George Russell (2 for 3), Andy Singh (2 for 16) and Jon Russell (2 for 17).
Andy Singh then starred with the bat in Paignton’s reply scoring an undefeated 46 as Paignton romped to 9 wicket win in just 11.1 overs.
Next up for the 3rd XI next weekend is hosting Hatherleigh CC 3rd XI.
Torquay and Kingskerswell CC 3rd XI 85 all out (24.1 overs)
S Waters 31
Paignton CC 4th XI 87 for 1 (11.1 overs)
A Singh 46 not out
Paignton CC 4th XI (20 pts) beat Torquay and Kingskerswell CC 3rd XI (2 pts) by 9 wickets
4TH XI
The day had finally dawned with the 4th XI making their home DCL debut against Babbacombe 3rd XI (aka Devon Dumpling CC as so many of the team frequent / work there) alas with only 10 players despite Vivek Kulkarni and Ollie Smith going beyond the call of duty to find an 11th.
Babbacombe won the toss and elected to field. With a little help from extras (44) the stars with the bat for T&K were Anu George who finished undefeated on 49 and Andy Redpath who scored 40. The best of the Babbacombe bowlers was Will Backholer with 2 for 24 – T&K finishing on 204 for 4 in their 40 overs.
In reply, Babbacombe’s reply was built around a 58 by Matt Reeves and 42 by Josh Ballard. The latter according to a team mate “has no defence.” The star with the ball for T&K was a player who might be small in stature but has a big heart, a certain Ollie Smith who took 4 for 32, the quote was “I wanted to keep myself on to try and get on the Honours Board.” Babbacombe were all out for 170 in 28 overs.
Despite the handicap of only 10 players a “fab-u-lous” win – getting more points than the other three elevens put together!
Next up next weekend is a trip away to take on Thorverton 3rd XI.
Torquay and Kingskerswell CC 4th XI 204 for 4 (40 overs)
A George 49 not out
Extras 44
A Redpath 40
W Backholer 2 for 24
Babbacombe CC 3rd XI 170 all out (28 overs)
M Reeves 58
J Ballard 42
O Smith 4-32
Torquay and Kingskerswell CC 4th XI (20 pts) beat Babbacombe CC 3rd XI (6 pts) by 34 runs
Player of the Day (and Smile of the Day)
Well it can only be one person – Ollie Smith.
Spectator Watch
Well with no one accepting the challenge of all four XIs in a day it has to go to:
Somerset has “Brian the Cat”, while Bovey Tracey has “Harold the Cat.”
a dash to blundells or the Rec - the choice is yours!
Harry Passenger is playing for the senior Devon side senior at Blundells while Josh Thompson is playing for Devon U18s at The Rec.
AAron printers cup win
Well Evo waits for one bus and the two come along at the same time! Having only scored for three three generations of a family until tonight but tonight Barton gave Evo a third generation of Shelton’s and also Parker’s / Calland’s.
As for the actual match. Barton won the toss and asked T&K to have a bowl. Disaster struck after one ball with Josh Thompson going lame – enter young Ethan Ebrahim as sub fielder. As for the replacement bowler, young Noah Carswell castled Fin Last first ball. Tobias Delahunty took a further two quick wickets (2 for 12) reducing Barton to 5 for 3. Nick Watkin formerly of this parish repaired some of the damage with 47 aided by Matt Lipton with 35. Barton finished on 114 for 8.
T&K opened there reply with Bobby Western and Rio Koyikkara – combined ages just 36. Western was soon out but it was a false dawn for Barton, as Koyikkara who went onto score 28 was joined by Faiz Ebrahim who went onto score 43. Thanks to these two batters and the Barton bowlers suffering from broken raiders the result was never in doubt – a 6 wicket win with 17 balls to spare. Sadly though not one player ventured into the bar afterwards.
Next up for T&K is a quarter final at home to Stoke Gabriel on Thursday 5 June.
BROCKMAN CUP UPDATE
The club have been informed that Barton CC won their appeal last night so the match will be replayed at The Rec on Tuesday 20 May.
THE CLUB WILL BE MAKING NO FURTHER COMMENT ON THIS MATTER AND REQUESTS ALL MEMBERS TO DO THE SAME.
